Well it is time for another addition to that great saga we know as TOTM. This month’s winner has been with the NHTOC since July 2009 and comes to us from the great state of Florida. A true southern gentleman who knows the meaning of hard work, a friend to all who know him, always willing to help others, and just as crazy about his HD as the rest of us. An avid poster to the forums with some great knowledge to aid anyone who asks and then some posts that no one has any idea what he is talking about.
I have to say though, this man has the best smiley post to match who he is
I think it is safe to say that he is a real Harley Davidson fan, but not to be outdone, so is the Mrs.’s!!! Who is ready to jump on her hog for a ride to anywhere that Harley’s Davidson’s gather. This stable is just full of 100th anniversary love from their trucks to the bikes…oh yes, I said bikes and they are twins!!! Twins….twins bazel….twins!!! If this month’s winner and the Mrs.’s aren’t joining us for a GTG, then you can find them riding to Daytona, Sturgis, or anywhere in between.
This month’s winner has to have, hands down, the all time cleanest trucks that I have ever seen before. He is completely infatuated with keeping his trucks spotless at all times and who would blame him, they look fantastic!! Always on the search for the perfect cleaning product or process to get that ultimate shine, it’s amazing he has time for anything else. I just can’t decide if his little “Mini Me” truck or the big truck gets more attention.? Oh quick, there’s a spot…better break out the porter cable and get that clean again!!!
So with that being said, let me be the first to congratulate this month’s TOTM winner and I give you July 2010’s TOTM winner, member #656, Mike “Merlin” Moore and his 2003 HD F150 #5913 (and his 2003 Mini HD #5913 1/2)
Question # 1: What sparked your interests in the Harley trucks?
Specifically your HD Truck?
I have been riding motorcycles on and off since I was sixteen. In 2002 we purchased two Harley Davidson silver and black 100th anniversary edition motorcycles. We’ve been to Milwaukee for Harley’s 100th birthday bash, Sturgis and Daytona bike week more times than I can count. We’ve ridden everywhere from the Black Hills to Blue Ridge including the Tail of the Dragon (312 curves in 11 miles). All these years of riding we’ve always wanted to get the HD anniversary truck. After looking at many two tones we finally found a stock (virgin) one owner truck in excellent shape. We love this truck!
Question # 2: Any interesting stories behind the history of vehicles
you've owned leading up to the HD truck or how you got it?
What lead up to purchasing the truck?
One day my wife said to me “I want a parrot”. Three days later I said to her “I want a Harley”. A week later she said to me “What kind of Harley do you want?” I said to myself “Oh s**t I’m getting a parrot”. I told her “I’m not sure I’ll go look.” I went to the HD dealership, picked one out and made her take motorcycle riding lessons with me.
I rode the bike around a little in the neighborhood until I became comfortable then I went for a looong ride down beside the ocean. When I came home she was sitting in the driveway waiting for me. The next weekend I got her comfortable riding in the neighborhood then out she went for a looong ride down beside the ocean. When she came home this time I was sitting in the driveway. I said “Ok that’s it I’m going to get another one.” We’ve been riding together ever since.
BTW, she never got that freaking parrot.
How we finally purchased the truck…We were riding back to North Carolina from Florida when we pulled off to get lunch. We made a left instead of a right so we had to turn around. When we pulled up to the traffic light there was a two tone at a Ford dealership smack dab right in front of us. We tried hard to purchase it. The truck was a little beat and the $tealership wanted WAY too much. We gave up, rode home and finally found one. It was a one owner, close to our house and in almost perfect condition.
Question # 3: Give me a rough list of the mods that have been done to your truck. I know you've got a lot done, so you can just list your favorites if you'd like!

Question # 4: Tell us a little about yourself. Your other hobbies, your job, your favorite past time, whatever!
I’ve grown up in sunny south Florida but I’m originally from Mississippi. I owned my own business for twenty five years. For the past fifteen years I’ve been in the computer field. I enjoy riding my motorcycle with my wife and our small circle of friends. I taught motor officer style motorcycle riding skills for four years and founded a precision motorcycle drill team. My latest hobby is the pursuit of the perfect polished paint deep “Wet-Look” finish on my “Pride and Joy” anniversary Harley truck.
Question # 5: You've been a member on the site for a while now, what is one of the best things you like about the site that keeps you around?
That’s easy, it’s the people. These are some of the best folks I have met anywhere on line. They come here because they have a common interest and stay here because the folks here are helpful and make you feel welcome and comfortable.
Question # 6: What is one suggestion to help make the site a better place?
It would be good to have any registered members at least introduce themselves in the “New Member Section” before being able to post.
Question # 7:
This is where I normally ask about where you decided on your screen name and any specific reason for choosing it?
That one is easy too. Merlin has been my motorcycle riding street name for many years. I’m glad it was available when I registered.
Question # 8: Almost at the end, what is in the future for your truck?, so what's the next plan of attack for your trucks future?!
It is my intention to keep the 03 anniversary Feng Shui clean stock appearance. The engine is virgin, pretty much bone stock and could use a little “wake-up”. I have done a few other things to it lately so the dust will need to settle a bit first.
Question 9: Last and final question, just an open end question for if you had anything else you wanted to mention that I didn't have a question for...here's the place to go at it! Your web site link, a plug for something, etc. etc. whatever you want to throw in!
I want to thank Sara, my wonderful wife, for her interest in both the bikes and our baby Shamu. I’d like to thank all the folks on NHTOC for making me feel welcome and their helpful advice. I’d like to also thank all the members that voted for me. The HD truck brings us here. The members keep us coming back.
