    Mod time!

Ran across a friend selling off some mods from his Lightning. I feel I got a pretty good deal. The gauge pod is gray, so Ill have to paint it black to match. And Ill have to have the Predator flashed I believe so that I can get my own tunes on it.

But all this for $650. All the parts have a little over 1000 miles on them.

    -Moto blue interchangeable lower pulley,
    -6 lb and 4lb pulleys,
    -AFE cold air intake,
    -preditor tuner,
-accufab polished single blade throttle body,
    -metco idler pulley,
    -metco tensioner pulley
    -2 goodyear gatorback belts
    -pillar triple gauge pod

    Bad cell phone pic. Sorry...

Thanks, I thought it was pretty fair on price. I dont know what type of gains to expect at all. I wasnt even in the market for performance. I was looking to buy a hood instead, but this seemed like a better deal.

Hopefully going to pick up a set of BBK shorties tomorrow or this weekend.
Not sure what type of gains to expect once everything is on. Anyone have any clues?

    Parts look good. Congrats.
Hopefully the guy you got the Predator from loaded the stock tune back into his L before selling it to you. Otherwise you're

I think he did. I didn't ask if it was married/lock to his vehicle, but he's a L freak and I just assumed he knew to unlock it. I'll have to call him to make sure

So who's the best canned tune to go with for our trucks? I used breenspeed for my mustang.

****ty thing I didn't think of is I just did my spark plugs when I cleaned my IC. I only put in NGK TR5's which I'm understanding from reading, I needed to just put in TR6's. Woops!

You should be able to tell if it is unlocked when you plug it in.

Someone should not have sold you a locked tool.

    Process:
When you plug in the Predator and begin the first thing it does is download your stock tune into the predator.
Then you pick your mods from the list and it uploads the performance tune into your truck.
If you take your truck to the dealership upload the OEM stock tune back into the truck first.
If they flash you ECM with the Predator tune in your truck your tool becomes locked again.
When you upload the OEM stock tune from the Predator back into your truck the Predator become unlocked.

If locked, you can unlock it via diablo customer support over the phone for $129

There are canned tunes in the predator that Diablo has dyno tested.

I'm running a canned out-of-the-box tune for now. I may get it dynoed later to tweak it in.
You can get a "custom" tune if you want. I will probably do this when I do some mods.
If you are getting your truck dynoed use the tuner that the dyno folks like to use.
If you are doing a "mail-order" tune be sure it's a trusted tuner and you send him your data logging.
I have heard may war stories from folks joining the VBC from a bad tune. Cost to you $10k.

I have the U7158 model. The tunes below are "built in" to the predator.
Plug in the Predator. Tell it what you got. Press upload. Real simple.

Right now I'm running the stock "Performance Tune for 93 octane and stock pulley" tune
There is a big improvement in the performance with just the built in stock Predator tune!

Here is a list of the built in U7158 Predator tunes.

    U7158 Vehicle Tunes/Horsepower Gains:

    Lightning/HD 30-40 rwhp 35-45 ft/lbs

Thanks Merlin! Youve been a great help.

Merlin has been helping me over PM's. But what I have discovered is that when I try to tune the truck, it starts to do the backup download, but then it fails and gives me these warnings...
    "original backup NOT SAVED"
"Predator was unable to save your original tune after 2 attempts. This can happen if the vehicle already has a performance tune."

Im half way convinced that there is a tune on the truck. 2 reasons (other than the tuner saying its possible) being...
    1) When I bought the truck, the salesman that had taken the truck on trade mentioned that he thought he remembered the original owner saying the only mod he ever did to the truck was a tunner.
    2) The truck shifts hard when you are giving it wot or close to. It shifts perfect when it is driving normal. At first I thought FTVB, but now Im thinking maybe its just the tune.

But I will have to check Monday Diablo is closed over the weekend. I was really looking forward to putting the pullies and everything on. Guess I could still install the 4lb one because I think I read that it doesnt require a tune.

Thanks again to everyone and esspecially Merlin for the help so far.

I did already install the AFE and Accufab SBTB. Its 105 degrees and humid here so I havnt really gone and tested them out yet, but Im not expecting anything significant out of those. But I have noticed that a stumble is gone that was in the truck. It runs and idles MUCH smoother! Guess she is breathing alot better after the IC clean, spark plugs, CAI and throttle body.
