IMO, 285/35/22 look ok at first, but with some wear and tear, they start looking a little thin with very little rim protection. Another option is the 295/35/22 or even 285/40/22 which add a fraction more side wall and a little more height. 2c

305/40/22's look GIGANTIC up front. Gives the truck a donk-ish look IMO, idk they just don't look right up front. 285/35/22's do look a little on the small side, but they grow on you. They are wider than stock, so its already a bigger contact patch. 305 is too wide for the front, and the 40 series on a 305 width is too much sidewall up front on a 22" rim.
I suggest finding a pic of a truck with 305/40/22's up front before purchasing a set.
The 285s are wider than stock tires, but the 22s are wider than stock rims, so it balances out. I'm gonna take my time and maybe someone with 285/40, 295/35 or 295/40s will post pix of their truck with the 22" replicas and I'll be able to see if they work. I'm not sure which tire would provide the right look, but to me the 285/35 looks too small.
the 22's are 0.5" wider than stock. 285's are 0.4" wider than stock. Now the actual footprint can vary slightly depending if the tire is narrow and stretched onto a wider rim, or sucked onto a narrower rim than the tire was intended for, but for comparison sake, you do get a slightly bigger footprint with the 285's on 22's than you do 275's on 20's.
285/40 and 295/40 are hard to find, I think in all these years I've heard of one guy going with one of those up front. Its originally what I wanted to go with too because I thought the same thing as you, 285/35 was a bit too small for me, but with how limited 285/40 and 295/40 tire sizes are, and they are even more PRICEY than 285/35's, I ended up going 285/35 up front and in person, they look absolutely perfect for the front.
Are there any Harley Truck GTGs (get togethers) on the East Coast? If there is I'd love to get to one and I'm sure everyone will see lots of ideas on the trucks from each other. I'm sure several folks with rims and tire combos will be there, so that will be a way to see how they sit in person versus trying to guage from a photo.
www.delvallo.net is our local site for the NJ/DE/MD/CT/PA/NY region. Its mostly L guys that show up though. Usually only 2-3 HD's show up.
Thanks for the link. Do any HDs come out to the JLP Dyno Days?
Looks amazing! Makes me miss mine.
tires-easy has 4 results for the 285/40/22 & 21 results for the 285/35/22 . the 285/40 Nitto 420 is the least expensive at $173. same site, the Hankook Ventus RH06 285/35/22 is $176, IIRC.
But there sure are alot of strange brands for the 285/35/22 that I would be wary of.
also, search ebay according to size and you'll get a few more hits.
Where can i get these 22?
thanks tweek!
