ok I have one tire with a nail in it
this is the only tire with low tread (could get another 10 to 15 k out of it)
so should I plug it patch it or just go ahead and replace it

I've had tires plugged in the past and the plugs lasted the full life of the tire.
Plug ftw!
plug it, america's tire or big brand will usually do it for free, and if they don't think it's safe like if the tire has shoulder wear or the nail is outside the tread area they'll push you to buy a new tire.
If air is good and I noticed something it in, I just plug it and call it a day.
if it was driven on when air was low for some time. You could weaken the sidewall. might be a good idea to get it dis-mounted inspected and then plug patch.
just my
I would plug it and try to replace all 4 at same time
If you have the option PATCH it...not plug the tire.....IMO
Plug it!! I have done multiple burn outs after the plug and even fish tales and never had to worry

plug it. then once its set, maybe wait a couple weeks just to be 100% sure its good and settled, and you do a nice smokey burnout it'll leave a nice little circle of the plug smoothed evenly with the tread surface
I've plugged many tires and never had a problem. But, the tire shops and mfgs recommend patching them from the inside. They said that jamming the plug in and using the tool that reams the hole out a bit (hehe I said tool that reams the hole out a bit, heheh) can break some of the belts and weaken the tire structure.
If you drive like Granny and don't expect to make any long road trips or drive it at 100+, you can probably get by with the plug safely. If you are a maniac and want to do it right to ensure safety, then follow the experts' recommendation and get it patched.
Discount Tire usually does patches for free as well, but I don't think they rebalance for free unless you bought their warranty.
well I have been known to try out for high speed driving awards ....lol...

but I am not going to be driving the truck that much anymore hopefully after next week when I get my work van back (new motor)
so the wife and as much as I don't like it the nephew will be driving the truck
but it wont be getting the miles put on it that it does when I use it
I put more miles on the truck in the last year since we moved here to AZ than I have since I owned the truck
patch it
