Heater air flow Controls have a mind of their own

Starting to notice that when I'm running the heater on my 03', the air flows pretty much where ever it wants to. I can push the floor setting but it will blow thru the defroster or I can push def and it will do pnl/flr. the floor setting is the hardest to set I can eventually get the others to come on right if I keep pushing it, but the floor is the toughest. Any thoughts? Thanks
