I'm almost positive that even the 2000 truck has the pats system so the key is programed I'm almost sure. I know the 02 keys are.

Yes, you have a chipped key. Do you have a remote start?, sometimes you can get lucky and take the key out of that to program another for a spare..

Can you post a pic of that plaque? And what is the vin# and build date? You can post the last 5 digits of the vin if you don't want to post the whole thing (even though its visible to anyone who looks in your windshield lol).

If it's 113 thats the lowest build 00 HD on the site, you've taken my thunder with having #356 as the lowest build on the site I'd really like to knwo the build date, mine was May 18!

my build number is 97........and the last 5 digits of my VIN is 00097...hence 'ol 97 nickname for her.or.Oprha.....she is big black and beautiful........lol........pushing 270k now and still going strong...it has been my DD since new. Have checked out the picks, video's etc.you've got one sweet ride my friend.....gotta luv'em.as for me.I think these and the lightnings are the best looking trucks ever made by anybody.just my opinion, but back when I first got it I was told so daily.lol..once evern a little old lady at a truck stop in okie came up and told him."I never knew they made trucks that pretty".he was 12 and made an impression.along with winning every show it's been in.which isn't many..but the truck has been and remains alot of fun. I was to get a factory re-paint, but the dealership changed hands and that was the end of that deal. the paint on the aluminum hood started chipping off two weeks after I got it. I also didnt get the bed cover for about 6 months after I bought the truck.but did get two of the jackets...Time for another driver but hope to keep this one forever and paint and mod it up a little for a sunday driver.

do you have a build plaque that shows its #97? That doesn't quite make sense with the Vin#.

My truck #356 ends in 89886 and was built May 18th. My other truck ends in 98567 and was built June 20th. If your Vin ends in 00097 that would mean Ford built 89,789 trucks between yours and mine (yet only 259 HD's apart), and then between my 1st HD and 2nd HD (built June 20th), which the vin ends 98567, only 8,681 trucks. The digit before 00097, is it a B, not an A?

HD production began in April 00, so yours could have only been built a month before mine at most if it were #97, so it just doesn't quite add up that from your truck #97 to my truck #356 ford built almost 90,000 trucks in 1 month, then from my 1st truck to my 2nd truck they only built not even 9,000 trucks in 1 month.

Can you get a pic of your build plaque and build date? And double check the last 6 of your Vin? The only thing that would make sense is if your vin actually ends in 90097. Which would mean the build # is not 97 since it's after both of mine. Or we need 1 more digit of your vin. Is it 2FRRX07L#YCA#####, or 2FTRX07L#YCB#####? The first # is the check digit. The last five are the number of trucks that rolled off the assembly line, and after CA#####, they rolled into CB#####. So your vin could be CB00097, but that would push it back even further into the build cycle, and not number 97.

As you can see, I'm obsessed with the topic lol

#356, With your obsession or passion for these trucks maybe you could help me. The center console plaque in my '02 say's 00946, I was wondering if Ford did a running count for each year or running count from start? Thanks.

I'm not Josh or nearly as educated on the subject but every year comes new numbers. There was a 946 every year the trucks were available.

Now in Joshs' case, with his truck being a 2000 truck, it is the first year, therefor his truck is actualy the 356th HD built.

Obession or passion? Where would you get that idea? I mean doesn't everyone have their Vin number memorized? And even know the digits behind the vin so well that they know which are the check digits, and can even determine other trucks vin #s off a few little hints? lol

Like tweek said, they restarted the count each year. If your center console says 946, then you have the 946th 2002 HD.

Ford built 8,197 HD's in 2000. In 2001 nobody has gotten a definite number but its best estimated around 6900ish. In 2002 they built 12,505, and in 2003 they built 10,047. After that getting into the Gen 2 HD F150's and the Superduty HD's, way too many variations and less of a "limited edition" sort of thing in their 12th year of production now so I stopped bothering trying to dig up total counts after the Gen 1's.

I have in the past had aloty of issues finding the correct parts for my truck, brake pads rotors mostly, I just use the chassis numbers from the original window sticker. It tells the original engine data, chassis date and specs paint code, etc and actual date of assembly..If i remember right tho it was like the first week (or day) in May? ..I am not at home for a few days but can get more on that when i do, I can dig up the package I have from when I bought the truck new. When I first got it I tried to register it on the Ford website and it never would let me, kept showing my VIN was from a 1999 Ford work truck...I bought it from a Texas dealer who VSO'd two after the Sturgis ralley. He actually went to canada on the day they kicked them off.he had some of pics from the party in his office. Jay Leno picked up his truck, the first one made I was told. If I remember he said they made so many in a row the first day and then built them along with other trucks afterwards. I think thats why they are garbled in the numbering.that plant could make like 55 or so trucks every hour when operating wide open, but they didn't gear up just to make the harley trucks all in one run. The dealer was selling out of his business' I found out later, and I got gipped out of the factory re-paint deal I was supposed to get, the aluminum hood started chipping away in like the first month or two after me driving it.

Early may would sound about right if it were truck #97. But I'd be willing to bet your build # and Vin # aren't both 97, since as you mentioned as well, the vin counts every vehicle that rolls off the assembly line, not just HD's.

If you can snap a pic of that, along with look up your build #, build date, & vin number and post it up. Always helpful getting more trucks build info to help other guys narrow down their build numbers that didn't get the owners plaque.

As for being hard to find parts, don't mention it's a harley truck at all, that only confuses parts people. The only difference HD wise drivetrain related on the 00 HD's was the front and rear springs, front swaybar, and catback. Everything else drivetrain wise is a regular f-150.
