    The Navigator Fuel Filter Upgrade

I know this has been mentioned before. I tried to consolidate all the info I found into one place on NHTOC.

Here is the Lincoln Navigator/Ford Expedition/F150 HD - NAVI fuel filter mod.

You can purchase the NAPA (NAPA Part # 3296) version or the FORD (FORD Part # FG-872). I personally used the FORD part

Here's a picture of NAPA filer. Notice the size difference.

Here's a picture of the FORD filter and Ford bracket (FORD Part # YC3Z-9180-CA)

You may need to hunt around a bit for the Ford bracket (FORD Part # YC3Z-9180-CA)...but IMHO it's worth the effort.

    Ford fuel filter

Remove the factory fuel filter bracket and filter:

    Stock Fuel filter Bracket:

Cut the top stud off the new bracket. The factory only had one stud, two are more than enough:

Use a step bit to drill out this hole:

Use the bracket to mark the location for the back mounting stud and drill that hole:

If you use these holes you will have no clearance issue with the E brake bracket or cables:

    Finished install:

Some folks just used a ZIP tie to mount the filter. It's easier and you don't need to hunt for the bracket. I prefer the Ford bracket method.

It's a cheap $25 mod. Thats for both the bracket and filter. Once you're under the truck it takes less than 15 minutes to do.

The filter bracket is NLA from ford, that's why I've been scouring salvage yards to get them for you guys.

Thank You! We all appreciate it I'm sure!

Agreed, I found some Ford dealerships that has or had a few still in stock.
I was lucky enough to find one. I believe there may be a few still around.
I does take some effort, energy and luck to find one but IMHO It's worth it!

    Wink

This is a good mod! I got one of the Navi filters and brackets from joedpl too.

Good write up Merlin. Way to get your hands dirty under the truck instead of always cleaning the top side!

What's the purpose of this? Just change the filter more often

It's to provide a larger filter surface area so you can go longer between filter changes

+1 Exactly!.... I don't particularly enjoy the gas bath, plus those pesky fuel line clips are dang hard to get off and on if you're not using the correct tool.

I change mine every 3rd oil change, takes minutes, cost is a few bucks I just don't understand the purpose of this ? Why go longer in between changes ? Oh never mind why do I bother talking

Maybe I will modify the oil filter from my power stroke to fit the f150 !! Then I can go longer on my oil changes.

I believe it is recommended you change the fuel filter every 30k whether it's stock or Navi.
If you cut them both open the Navi filter has almost 3 times the filter surface over the stock filter.
The larger filter is better if you get build up due to the fact that the larger filter will have plenty of filter area space left.
The Navi fuel filter will also protect better against possible fuel pump issues and gunk causing a fuel pressure drop.

lol personally I'm with you and never bought into this mod. Yes in theory it all makes sense, just one of those things I change it often enough, the smaller filter is easier to work with in the cramped spaces.
