    JL Audio Amps installed

Finally finished getting both of the JL XD Audio XD amps installed.

I already had the JL Audio XD600/1 and the JL Stealthbox sub box installed.
I just installed the JL Audio XD400/4 to power the four Infinity door speakers.

The new JL Audio XD amps have a very small footprint and lots of clean power.
What a huge difference!!! Crisp, full and a lot more clarity in the mids and highs.
The only way I know how to describe it is...it now has a much better "balance".

Here are a couple of pics of the finished install.

    Looks real good Merlin.
Was wondering about the screws holding the amps, what are they going into?

yeah i cant wait to get some time to redo my system. im adding a jl 1000/1 for the sub and a jl 450/4 for the mids and highs. i have a jl stealth box, but the factory jl sub didnt have enough output for me so i replaced it with a alpine type r. my door speakers are going to be alpine type r components. should sound better then my old set up.

old set up consisted of a memphis 500/1 for the sub and a kenwood ddx 8017 powering the door speakers. i had memphis 6x8 up front and jl 5x7 in the rear.

i have the current amp mounted behind just like merlin does and plan on running the new set up for both sides the same way

I have a piece of 3/4" plywood behind the back wall carpet.
If you look close you can see a piece of 1/2" cut to fit inside the front opening.
The 1/2" was wrapped with thin black carpet then screwed onto the 3/4" ply.
The amps were then screwed into the 1/2" front and on into the 3/4" back ply.

    NOTE:
You could just put a piece of 3/4" ply behind the back stock carpet if you want.

definately nice clean set-up, and I can imagine the great sound those amp produce, clean and cear and high as you'd like with-out the distortion tht lessor amps produce, great job as always, well thought out and smart install.

    Thanks.
That's what I like about the JL Audio XD models. Small & stealthy.

XD 600/1 Class D Monoblock Subwoofer Amplifier
XD 400/4 Full Range Class D 400W 2/3/4 Channel Amplifier

Lots of power and a very small footprint. 8.52 in. x 7.09 in. x 2.05 in.
    ------------------------------------------------------------------

Another Option...is the NEW XD700/5 Five-Channel, Class D System Amplifier
The XD 700/5 is a single unit (it's a little wider) It will fit sideways and the wires would be at the bottom.

Even though the 1/2" ply is wrapped, the carpet color was VERY close to the OEM stock carpet.
The real "trick" is the 3/4" ply behind the stock carpet so you have material to run screws into.

It was a bit bottom heavy with the sub and head unit output to the doors.
What a nice even quality sound...Sounds as good now as my home system.

...I can finally hear good tunes over the loud pipes! ROFL

Hey merlin I was wondering if you took measurements behind the panel where your amps are? Would this box fit?

Looks like a different rig than just the amp. I'm not sure if it will fit.

I have the CP108LG in my girlfriends tahoe, and it sounds great. I don't think it will fit behind the panel in our trucks. I used it for a short period of time while I was getting my speaker box made. I just sat it on the floor in front of the rear console, it was never in the way of rear passengers. I was very surprised how much bass comes out of that little speaker. JL now makes a 6" version of that
