    Stealthbox blown sub

Sooooo.. I just put in a new 1200 watt amp for my JL W3 sub (that sub can only handle 500 watts)

Anyways I turned the gain down but it seems I managed to blow the sub regardless.

Is it hard to take apart the stealthbox? Is there a "how to" to remove the rear center console?

My sub gave out over time and I recently had to replace it.

There is just a series of screws holding the sub onto the box. Once you get the sub separated from the box, there is a positive and negative connection.

    That is it. Very easy.

I'm thinking thats exactly what happened to mine as well. I know I did not turn the volume up near loud enough to blow the sub, I guess it has just worn out over time

It was torn from edge to cone and I never turn it up too loud.

I was able to find a new JL Audio replacement for under $100 shipped.

Dang, that sure was a deal. The cheapest I could find was about $159 and up.

I had to replace mine too after about 4 years.

JL may be able to repair it. I sent in my JL 12w7 for repair because the foam around the edges started to disintegrate. (The speaker was built in '02) They charged me $250 for the repair to the foam surround and the other components so now I have a brand new speaker. The 12w7's retail for around $650.

Take your speaker to a car audio shop that deals with JL speakers and see if it can be repaired.
