    Laugh The Rebuild Begins!

And so it begins! I had planned to pull it during the summer so I could drive the truck I bought my son before he gets his license in the fall. But, lot of delays later I'm just now starting. Its got about 190K on it but still ran strong until I started to get a miss. I almost sure it’s a tiny head gasket leak into the #2 cylinder. I will be doing a full rebuild top to bottom. I’m not going mod crazy on it. But it would be nice to hit around 450 HP.

Here is a working list that I will continually update here of all the parts and pieces I need or hope I can get:

List of items that are required
    • Block cleaned, and checked.
    • Heads cleaned and checked
    • Most likely it will need to be bored. So new/Upgrade pistons.
    • new Upgrade rods. With new wrist pin bearings of course
    • new rod bearings
    • new main bearing
    • New timing chain kit
    • water pump
    • Stainless oil pump gears
    • new torque converter nuts
    • Full engine rebuild gasket kit. (Gaskets and seals for everything basically)
    • Oil filter
    • Oil
    • Antifreeze
    • Transmission fluid (to service while its down)
    • Cold air filter kit
    • proper dyno tune at HPP Racing in Lewisville. (I already have an SCT Tuner)

List of items that are optional (depending of budget)
    • Upgrade MAS (Size?)
    • Single blade or large dual port TB
    • Upgrade intake plenum or port
    • upgrade to +8 lower pulley from +6
    • Bassani mids & cat-back
    • ARP fasteners top and bottom

What else would you guys suggest?

send the eaton/plenum/tb off to steigemier for a port!

depending on your smog laws, I also felt huge gains with an OBX longtube + midpipe kit.

You're going to probably have trouble hitting those HP numbers due to heat with the Eaton. Definately get a port job and headers like Blind said and maybe think about a different heat exchanger setup too. Anything to try and keep your IAT2 temps down. BTW, nice lift.

Good luck. Upgrading those rods is the right way!

Yea, I am worried about the IAT. Im still digging to understand what I may be looking at temp vs performace gain wise. It get freakin hot here in Dallas. It has crossed my mind to take a good look at the twin screws but damn those are exspensive. (I had a 1.6L KB at 9PSI on the 96 Lighting/Bronco conversion I did).

I has discovered the porting stuff finally. And im taking a serious look at it. I would much rather upgrade the blower.

Thanks about the lift. I turned wrenches for 9 years as a dealer tech. After I changed careers I just couldnt stop. ;)

well the block is done, bored 20 over. Problem is my heads are toast. Both have cracks in the combustion chambers. One is bad enough it was the one leaking coolant into the combustion chamber.

So, I need rplacment heads. This is not good with going over my budget. On short notice like this I dont have time to really research this like I normally would. What options do I have here?
What would a base set of heads run me? plus they dont come with cams right?

You can buy ported stock PI heads with stock cams from MMR for ~$1250.

Or trick flow heads are about $2400, those are not ford castings.

MMR Stage 1 Ported Cylinder heads + 30 HP

Brand new ported Polished cylinder heads, includes new factory valves, springs, retainers, locks and stock PI cams

Upgrade to MMR stainless Steel swirl polished valves $269.99

Upgrade to Comp high performance springs $239.99

NO CORE CHARGES- NO USED HEADS LIKE THE OTHER GUYS!!

MMR Heads Will make MORE POWER than the competition or your money back!

    Part # 100601 Price: 1249.99
    Rear Seat Delete Kits

I think they sell the stock ford PI heads with cams brand new for a couple hundred less.

fwiw they are the SAME heads and cams as mustang 4.6L 2v SOHC engines with PI heads. The only thing to watch is the amount of bolts for the valve covers to make sure yours are compatible, or just get the valve covers with the new heads.

Cool. Thanks. I'll check out the MMR heads.
Another note. At the machine shop he noticed my heads are the "PI" heads. Is this normal on the 2003 Harley trucks?

Manny had me go with Trick Flow and his custom grind comp cams.

HUGE difference compared to my previous set up.

Now is not a good time to go cheap. You will just end up wasting the money.
Yes officer... I am aware of how fast I was going!
