    Need some guidance

Im going to be purchasing a 2003 HD in a couple of weeks and I was searching on here about some of the mods you guys do to you alls trucks. I just had a few questions. First, I've read that the stock shortblock is good for around 450rwhp, will the shortblock last long ath this power level? I will have around $1.5k for mods, what mods should I do with this amout of cash? I was thinking $500 for a dyno tune, cai, 6 or 8# lower pully, tranny valve body. If this will not do it, what mods are needed to get to 400wrhp and is it possible with my budget? Truck has 117,000 miles if that matters. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

There's trucks on here with over 200k miles with 6# lower setups making ~400rwhp.

How long it will last depends on how you drive it, how safe the tune is (not too much timing), and how good the gas quality is where you fill up.

To get from more than 400rwhp you'll also need to port the blower, run a cold air or ram air intake, and do exhaust (longtubes). Those all cost a bit more to do, but have really good gains, a cold air intake alone adds 1-2psi of boost. Longtubes drop boost but add power (and reduce heat/IAT2 temps)

    Thanks for the info guys.

I think I will do these, along with a cai and see how it drives. Is there a specific cai that you guys are using? Thats good to know about the mileage. This will not be a dd, if that info helps. Would I need a wideband before I get it tuned?

Ok. I can spend that money on other mods. I'm in upstate SC. A buddy of mine uses Rick(not sure of his name) @ Amazon tuning in Anderson SC. Anyone have any heard of him or have any suggestions for a dyno tune in my area?

Rick and Lynn at Amazon are good people...have heard good things about them. Plus if they are within driving distance of you, that is a plus.

I would spend the money and get yourself a WB Air to Fuel gauge to have in the truck so you can monitor it while driving. If you can't hear marbles in a jar due to music or just road noise, then your gauge is going to show you that your running lean and you need to get out of the gas.

Thanks for all the help guys. I was talking to my former supervisor at work that use to own a 2002 HD and he tuned and modded his own HD before he wrecked it so I may get him to tune it for me. Will i need a larger maf with these mods and what's the maf extender for?
