    swapping rearends

    Im putting another rearend in my 02 hd f150 bc some **** hit the back of my truck and i hit the curb sideways completly snaped the tire all the way to the end of the housing off so i went to a junk yard that had a rearend with the same tag number on it. however when i was looking at the tag one has an A and ones a B? and one says full synthetic and one says something else anybody know the diffrence or if it matters? both have 3.73's in them any help would be greatly apprechated!

    got with tho that says full synthetic i would change after you install it

    So long as the tag says 3L73 and bolts up it should be what you want, the L means limited slip.

    Ok cool thanks and yeah got full synthetic oil already but was just making sure I could use it still even tho tag says otherwise

    Yeah, as already mentioned, make sure to get the limited slip diff and that both wheels turn under load.

    Have someone hold one wheel while trying to turn the other one forward and see if they both turn. You don't want to put an open diff back in there.

    According to what I could find a 4L73 is a Dana 80 out of a 1999 and up F350 diesal and it is a limited slip with a 4.10 gear.

    4L10 would be the 4.10 limited slip dana 80 from a super duty.

    I don't know anything with a "4L73" are you sure you are reading the tag on it right?

    Sorry guys the bolt smashed the first # n all we could make out was what appeared to b a 4 but got smart and wire wheeled it n removed dirt rusting paint n made it out to b a bottom of a 3 is all that was visible sorry for the trouble much appreciated tho . The task ended up being very easy took about 15 min to drop it putting in the new one today but can't seem to find any reline additive to put in along with oil job one seems to carry it any other ideas before I get it offline?

    I just used the friction modifier from pep boys.
    01 hd with a s/c swap, built motor, ported heads, stage 3 cams, whipple 3.4 s/c 4 upper and 4 lower for the street, 3.5 upper and 6 lower when i want to get nasty. wms big inlet and cai, whipple 160 sbtb, punisher built trans, circle d 2400 stall, trick stage 3 i/c, lfp dual pass h/e, triple 255 fps in a fore hat, -10 feed and -6 return, aeromotive reg., jlp rails, 80# inj., ba3000 maf, sct x-cal3, jlp comp r, detroit tru-trac, ta rear diff cover, 4.10 gears, jlp traction bars, metco idler pullies, mp tensioner bridge, hotchkis tvs, plenty of bling and soon to come new mods
