    Installed Nitto NT420S 305/45/22

Hey folks, it's been a while since I post here. I mostly spend my little free time working on my new toy, lol.

So my 2011 Harley F150 needed new tire with only 20k miles on the clock. Those factory Pirelli P-Zero are a serious POS. Thread was gone and the tires were dried rotted.

So I did my homework (although I never figured why people go with 305/40/22 instead of the factory 45) and decided to Buy 4 new Nitto NT420S 305/45/22 based on the great reviews they have. My other option was to buy Toyo Proxies ST II, which are also great tires but I was able to get the Nitto's at a better price. So far so good, no rubbing and they feel pretty good. I have Hellwig sway bars so that's what really makes the difference. I could not stand the body roll of the truck with the massive 22's from the factory.

BTW here's my new toy. I sold my 2012 V-Rod Muscle and got me a 2013 Corvette Grand Sport. I missed having a Sports Car so bad. I Love it, I've been modding the crap out of it.

Truck looks great! Still almost wish I got a 2011-2012 HD instead of the Raptor some days. I agree the Pirelli P-zero's are POS tires. Our 2011 Mustang GT came with those stock, and at 30k they were absolutely shot, all dry rotted and cracked on the sidewalls, such a junk tire from a well known brand name.
As for why guys go with 305/40/22 instead of factory 45 series, it's because the 45 is the aspect ratio, not the sidewall height. Stock size is 275/45-22, so the sidewall is 45% of 275mm, or 123.75mm. With 305/40/22s, the sidewall is 40% of 305, or 122mm. With 305/45/22, the sidewall is 45% of 305, or 137.25mm. So with 305/40 you get a 30mm wider tire that's only 1.75 mm shorter sidewall than stock. With a 305/45 tire you get 30mm wider but 14.25mm taller sidewall (28.5mm overall diameter taller). So guys go with 305/40 to get width but keep the same sidewall height and same overall diameter. Essentially 275/45 and 305/40 don't effect the speedometer or odometer, but 305/45 your speedo now reads over 3% slower, or your showing about 2 mph slower than what you're actually going at 60. Not a huge deal, and easily fixed with a tune, but there's the reason why when guys swap tires, they go with 305/40 instead of 305/45....added width without the added height.

Now all that said, with your truck sitting pretty high, the added height looks good since it helps fill the wheel wells a tad more.

Wow, thanks for the information. Very helpful, I guess I didn't do a good homework before my purchase. Either way, I do like the way the tires look and I'm ok with the 2 mile difference.

Is funny that you mention the Raptor because some times I wish I had bought a Raptor instead. I like the way it looks better, I just couldn't justify having one since I would never take a 60k truck off-roading. I prefer an ATV for that.

So you ended up going with the 305/45s front and rear? Also, your truck is sitting at the factory height, correct? And you're not experiencing any rub at all in the front? Thanks in advance for the info and sorry if that info was stated earlier and i overlooked it. One last question. Is yours AWD or 2wd?

My truck is AWD, yes it is sitting at stock height and no, I don't have any rubbing issues and I can steer the tire all the way to the end without any issues. I love the way the tire looks over the factory. It doesn't have that low profile look anymore, IMO.
