I have 295s all around and the front rub. But a 305/40 is the widest I think you want for the back. But I could be wrong.

yes the middle # is aspect ratio, which isn't sidewall heigh like the first number is tread width, it's the ratio of height to width, so you could have a tire with the same middle # as another tire, but if the first # is bigger, the sidewall will also be bigger.

most go with 295 width. you can go 305, but you either have to go taller, which looks too beefy on a 2wd HD, or if you can find a discontinued 305/40, the OD is close to a 295/45, but it has a big sidewall bulge from our rims being narrower than their minimum recommended rim width.

I just put on 295/45r20's. they look better than the stock 275/45r20's. My truck is stock height in the front and the back lowered 2-3 inches to level (I think, its been a long time). In the picture the truck hasn't moved after being set down off the jack. So it has more gap than normal. (If the picture doesn't show up correctly it is in the "what did you do to your HD" thread Pg. 70.)

I was able to fine a couple 305/45/20. Right now I have 275/45 up front and 295/45 in the back. Do you think the 305/45 in the back and 295/45 in the front would give the same look it has now?

305/45/20 is a tall tire. Too beefy for a HD IMO.

That new setup would still be a staggered combo with the rear wider and taller than the front, but that rear tire is really going to look bloated.

that's what I run (305/40r22) but they don't look silly because the rim is a lot wider so the tire doesn't bulge like a donut around it.

yes I run 305/40/22's in the rear. It's a tall setup at about 32" tall, but I guess to clarify my "too beefy" comment, a 305/45 on a 20" rim is a lot of sidewall on a moderately sized 20" rim. A 305/40 on a 22" rim is overall taller, but that added overall diameter is from the rim, not the sidewall, so it's not an excessive amount of sidewall for a very large sized rim. It's all about the proportions!

15"-16" rim....gimme LOTS of sidewall for a dragster look

20-22" rim....gimme a slim sidewall for a sleek look, not too small it's a rubber band, but not too much where it looks unproportional.
