    Strange noise

As of early last week I noticed a ringing sound coming from the front of my truck. Or what seems like the front of my truck. First it started at 50mph and would quite completely at 60mph. Then the next day it would start at 30 and stop at 40 and so on and so forth. The only way I can describe this sound is like running your finger around the edge of a crystal wine glass. It started after I picked up my truck from the body shop that a close friend owns but on the way to the body shop I hit a pothole that was unavoidable. The truck doesn't drive any different and still runs very strong. I just wanted to see what you guys thought before I just drop it off at a shop and start throwing money at it.

Just a thought, but a couple of years ago I had some strange sounds maybe not quite like a ringing but we got my truck up on a rack and tapped on everything underneath towards the front. This took a couple of times road testing afterwards .We found some shielding loose exhaust system a little loose too.Anyway wish you good success finding your MYSTERY sounds LOL.

A sound like that??? I would inspect everything that has to do with the wheel you hit the pothole with as that would be my first guess as to where the sound was coming from...truck may drive fine but you could have still knocked something loose or shifted something.

I've done that. After I got it back I thought it might be the wheel bearings, so I replaced those and the sound is still there. Been thinking it might be a warped rotor? Or I'm needing new front tires so I'm really leaning towards that being the problem. Going to rotate the tires tonight and see if that's the problem

Hopefully that will move the sound if its the tire. Warped rotor or something with the rotor is an idea for sure. GL

If it's a warped rotor you would notice consistently. It wouldn't come and go. It would also cause the steering to shutter under braking.

It's about as unnecessary as you bumping your gums.
