    Bad coil

Does anyone know how to find a coil that is going bad with out buying a 5000.00 scan tool?
I know I have a coil going out but really don't want to buy and replace all 8 for just 1 coil.

    Mahalo for your input.
    Aloha and be safe

Take the truck to Autozone or such and have them check the codes for free. The misfire code should identify the cylinder that is causing you problems if that is truly the case.

    Thanks for the reply guys...
The misfire dose not throw a code if it did it would be a easy fix plus it is intermittent.
The last time I had this problem I had a friend put his Snap On scan tool on it and #6 took a while but it did its thing.

I had one go bad. On two different occasions neither of which threw a code. Finally I said "F it" and just bought a whole new set. They are 12+ years old anyhow.

I found mine on Ebay, for my truck and 4.6 in my Lincoln MK8 . Close to 100,000 miles on both sets.

I got mine from www.Rockauto.com they are $43 each. I was planning on getting a new set for the new build anyway, they just got put in to use early. I've since seen someone post a diesel site where they were about $10 cheaper, but I dont recall the site.

In my experience if one goes bad, the others aren't that far behind it. It's better to replace them all if money allows
