02 hd 3rd brake light removal
So my new 3rd brake light came in today and I figured it was a easy plug and play. Nope I had a hell of a time just trying to get the rubber grommet out, it seemed that the wires were super tight. Do I have to go inside the cab and remove the headliner to get this done. I tried googling it and couldn't really find anything. Any advice/pics would help. I just want to do it right the first time. Thanks in advance

Yes, the head liner must come down in the rear.
Remove the top mount for both back seat belts, remove the plastic pillar trim pieces once the seat belts are out of the way. Pull the door weather stripping free from the pinch welds, remove the plastic fasteners in the roof liner. That should be about everything. This will allow you enough play to get you hand up to unplug the light's connector.

It's upside down.. ugh but finally got the 3rd brake light in. It was going just fine until I dropped the screw between the bed and the cab (45 min later) it's done. It looks ok but doesn't fit quite right. They didn't make them shallow enough and hit the metal so it sticks out a little. I'll wait till I get a lightning 3rd brake light.

I recently bought a NOS factory Lightning third brake light, I hate that I had to pay so much for a brake light but the company that used to make re-pops doesn't sell them anymore and factory lights have become unicorn items, especially NIB.

Yes they have, but they look so good. In time one will pop up.
