    Unhappy Roof repaint

Hey guys, I looked at my roof the other day and noticed 2 small, rust spots about the size of a pencil eraser and the paint getting thin, looks like primer showing through. I was wondering if someone can give me some idea of the cost of repainting it? I think the rust spots are still superficial so sanding should take care of them, and no other body work needed, the rest of the truck has already been done, it just needs it from gutter to gutter. Thanks in advance.

don't waste time or you'll have a hole in your roof, been there done that.

I work at a stealership, so I have mine done on the side. I had to have the hole welded and I used it as a good excuse to drop the headliner and dynamat the roof.

what a difference in the sound. now I doesn't sound like a bucket of nails being dumped on the roof when its raining.

For getting rid of the rust I might suggest Iron-X Spray...I wouldn't sand as the OEM clear coat is thin & you may have issues.
However, if "it looks like the primer is showing through" you may have clear coat failure (common on roofs that are outside 24/7).

Thanks Merlin, I lightly sanded the 2 little spots I had then treated them with Rust o leum rust converter spray, I got an estimate of $500 to respray the top, so I guess that'll be her Christmas present. Lol

Anyone ever used or knows how I would go about getting tree sap off the roof of mine? washed it a few times in hopes it would come off only some of did, looks like if I scrape it off with my finger nails it would come off hours later with no finger nails left......any suggestions?

Here's a couple of things to try...

    Stoner's Tarminator
    Isopropyl alcohol
    Tar-X
    Mineral Spirits
    Plastic razor blade

Depending on the hardness put the product on a cloth/towel and let it sit and soften/melt before removing with the plastic razor blade.
Again, it may take a few times before it will soften/melt enough to wipe completely away. Hopefully it has not eaten through the CC.

    Good Luck!

Got an estimate of $614.00 to strip the paint and remove the seam sealer (cracked) repair seam sealer and reapint the roof.
