    Engine noise

I have 2002 with a problem a can't pinpoint. Theres a noise that sounds like an exhaust leak while i accelerate. I tried lifting the rear wheels and accelarated while checking out the engine bay, but can't seem to find the problem. After i crashed and rebuilt the truck, i noticed a broken bolt on one of the headers. I swapped the headers to long tubes but that didn't seem to be it. The headers were the last of the exhaust to be replaced, i have new tubes, headers and cats. Any ideas. Sound seems to be coming from the drivers side

I had the same noise in my old 03 and also have it in my current 03. Both trucks were under 30K miles. Haven't figured it out yet, but it's on the drivers side.

check your belt tensioner, my was making a sound that I swore was a vacuum leak, but bearing was going bad allowing the pulley to rub on the bracket

Plugs getting ready to blow out will make a ticking noise. You can hear the plugs igniting. But still, never a bad idea to make sure their torqued properly.

I've had two 03 HD's with the exact same ticking noise - plugs were fine. The noise comes from the drivers side (at least that is where I hear it from). Sounds like a leaky collector or super loud injectors. Don't see any soot so I don't think it's an exhaust leak. However, wish I could simulate load on a lift to track it down.

Hmmm loose lifter perhaps? Thought that would be odd to have on two trucks.

Best guess is something to do with the exhaust manifold.
