Question for an original 03 Harley owner

Was there an orange cover over the console insignia that has the build number and serial number???? I bought my truck used and always wondered why there is no build number. The console insignia has the 100 anniversary eagle in the center but is surrounded by bright orange. The orange almost looks like a plastic protection type cover although it fits exact, only allowing the eagle and the chrome edge exposed. I was wondering if the information is under the orange. I really don't want to ruin the insignia, Tried picking around the edge with no real luck. If it is a protective cover it maybe baked on after all these years and may never come off. Any information would be appreciated.

I have a picture here. All the plaques I have seen are black with the numbers, never saw one like mine, I am wondering if the orange was a protective cover that was never removed from the factory or at Pre-delivery. I wonder if it is a cover if it would come off after 14 years. The actual piece is attached and does not appear to have ever been disturbed. When I bought the truck it was completely unmolested although it has had several owners, the last part of it'ts life since 2006 it was mostly in storage. Only driven 3,000 miles since 06. Other than the owner that I purchased it from I have been not able to contact anyone. The actual color is more of a Harley Davidson orange than what shows in the picture. Again any help would be deeply appreciated. DSCN0542.jpg

I know im being one of "THOSE" guys but use the search o the forum and look for build numbers. There is a list pretty long. Might be able to match and get it narrowed down. I jnow some people keep a pretty good list. Also try lightningrodder.com and do the same. There are peeps that might know someone who can help.

Well great and I say GREAT!!!! news I was able to get the exact build number for my truck, 03509 I am so thrilled. I also bought a new orange console plaque and received it today I spent several hours on it and have it now in proper readiness for numbering. The next step after complete drying time is for my son to do the actual lettering, He runs a sign shop and hopefully he can get it done. [ATTACH]30521

The original plaque should have a grey back ground and has the year upper left, build number in the upper right and the VIN along the lower edge. The orange plaque was available from Ford years ago, as I purchased a couple and have them laying around somewhere.

This link show what the factory plaque should look like:

I have to give a special thanks to a guy that was on this forum years ago that was able to get me my build number, without his help this would have never happened. Thanks again!!!
