    Exclamation FAQ: Please read first!!!!!

    What mods should I do first? 4# lower, K&N panel filter, Oil separator, Factory Tech Valve body.

    Does lightning exhaust fit the HD? Yes, you can get it to fit but it takes some adjustments. Read more here

    What is different about the L motor vs. The HD's? The L motor has a smaller upper pulley that gives the 2#'s of boost.

    What should my truck run stock? Most trucks run between 15.0's and 14.0's. Depends on the driver.

    What is the shift difference between the LFP Valve body and the Factory tech valve body?

    What is the difference between a Lightning lower and a Harley lower? Actually there is no difference. The upper pulley is what is larger on the HD vs. the L.
    ex: A 4lb lower on a L would give the L 4lb's of boost over stock. The same 4lb lower on an HD will give it ABOUT 2lb's more over stock due to the larger upper pulley.

    If I add a chip will it VOID my warranty? Yes, if a dealer sees that you cleaned the contact crud off and had a chip in there they will deny warranty if you blow an engine. Read more here

    If I dont want to buy the HID lights what is the best inexpensive way to go? What do you think of PIAA?

    Hey guys im new to all of this someone please explain what all of this 4# lower is. I have a Superchip programer on the way.

    If you get a lower #4 pulley it will increase your boost 2 lbs. People say the superchips microtuner works well with the #4 pulley but anything higher is pushing it (for the microtuner that is). Thats when you need to get a chip or PCM reflash. YOu don't have to but its your engine and we'd like to see how much it takes to blow our motors!

    Some have not used any chips with an #8 lower pulley but you have to watch out for kick downs. What are kick downs? Its here somewhere and I'm not good at explaining it. That would be good for a FAQ. Definition of kick down.

    Ok, so if you wanted to EASILY add the extra 23 of boost you can just get a 4# lower and put it on the HD. Giving about 8 total (like lightning) and in theory should then be safe with stock computer setup. So I could theoretically order up a LFP lower with 4# and 8# rings, put the 4 on now and save the 8 for later when I "chip" it?

    In theory, You could change your spark plugs to a colder plug and install a LFP 4# lower and get 8#'s of boost with no chip. In Theory.

    lower pullies:
    8.45" diameter is a 4# on the "L" and 2# on the "HD"
    9" diameter is a 6# on the "L" and 4# on the "HD"
    10" diameter is 8# on the "L" and 6# on the "HD"

    some companies market the pullies differently than other companies, makes it confusing to know exactly what you are buying, Im no expert but hope this info helps!

    Love the FAQ, like 356 said...if people would read it first!!

    A 4# lower will add 4# of boost. I don't know why people say it will only add 2#'s. If that was the case...it would be called a 2# lower --- It does add 2# over a stock Lightning. But who cares...WE DON'T OWN LIGHTNINGS!!!! A 4# lower will add 4#'s!

    I think a much better way to differentiate between pulleys is talk about the diameter in relationship to the added pounds of boost. I know Ken has measures most pulleys and knows what they truly add in terms of boost.

    I will ask him to chime in and we should put together a chart.

    You obviously don't have a 2002 HD. Because a 4# lower ONLY adds 2#'s of boost to an HD. The Upper pulley is larger on the HD causing the blower to turn SLOWER.

    I think this needs to be added to the FAQ. I found it from a Ken800 post... It was the only way I could understand pulley combo's and the boost they produce...

    Here are the forumlas. L and HD have a 7.4" lower pulley. L has a 2.93" upper, Harley 3.25. 2lb is 7.8" 3#:8.17 4#:8.5" 5#:8.75" 6#:9" 8#:10" Lower/Upper=ratio ratio times 5250=blower rpms at shift point of 5250. You can plug the values into a spreadsheet and see what I am talking about...

    Here is the formula to calculate maximum potential boost

    a = lower pulley diameter.
    b = upper pulley diameter.

    1.84 x ( a / b )
    ------------------ x 14.7 - 14.7 = BOOST
    2.7

    14.7 is PSI at sea level, 1.84 is eaton blower displacement in litres, and 2.7 is the engine displacement divided by 2.

    Plug in the values for an L with a 4lb and a HD with a 6lb and see what you get. Hint: they are not the same.
