I guess many would wish for that. I will feel VERY sorry to loose that at stock HU replacement time . There are adapters for the other way around but who will want that in our case?? ..

IMO it is pointless to install a sub and amp with the factory HU The sub and amp will not make a worth while difference if you keep a factory HU. The money you are spending on a sub and amp will probably be anywhere from 500-1000 dollars. For that you probably want to hear an increase in quality. But if you keep the factory HU you are not going to get what you are paying for. Just my opinion.;sfus

I got a clarion 8" sub in my truck, usually 150 at crutchfield, but baddgene from f150online gave me his for 70 bucks when he sold his HD, but anyway, its the perfect addition to the stock system. Everybody who rides in my truck is really suprised at the sound for a stock system with just an 8" woofer. Yeah its not the greatest or whatever, but for 100 bucks or so, a small woofer is a nice addition to the stock system to pick up where they left off, and not end up paying too much money or doing too much work to the system.

Several ideas come to mind here... First I hope to have an answer on the factory/OEM changer this weekend... I am trying to reverse engineer the Alpine to OEM converter (Ford OEM Radio to Alpine aftermarket changer) I used in my Mountaineer to allow me to use the OEM HD F150 (Alpine built) changer with my Alpine aftermarket deck.

I can tell you all this FOR SURE: If we can make the OEM changer work it will ONLY work with an Alpine HU.

On the Factory HU.. I posted some thoughts in "stock sux".. might check out the long version there. here is the short version:

Factory Ford/Visteon radios have a "bass mute/delete" circuit in them. As your right wrist cranks the volume, the bass is equally reduced to protect the OEM speakers...

Factory HU is done at about 1/2-1/3 of the little bar scale showing on the bottom of the display. After 1/3 way you are only clipping & distorting the signal.

If you slide the OEM radio out it should be "stepped" big display little narrow body. If you have a BIG honkin' totaly rectangular radio in the dash it has the factory sub woofer out & the internal crossovers. I have seen some F150's with them in there by mistake.

If you use the OEM HU, use a JL or Xtant amp with a high quality built in line converter or get a Sound Gate line converter. Quality converter is everything.

I would understand the oem HU if we had steering wheel controls... The OEM changer I can kind of understand a little.

Hope to have the final answer on the OEM changer with Alpine HU this weekend.

With my stock HU, I added Infinity door speakers, Hifonics Zeuss 700watt 5 ch. amp, and twin 10" RoFo's. System sounds great, very clear and extremely loud. Can't turn volume past 1/3, lest I blow out my ears, but even at that level, it is VERY crisp. Glad I didn't waste my money on a new HU.

BLOWNHARLEYFORD - I sent you a PM, but I guess I could have just asked my question here. How did you mount your 10s? Did you build a box behind the rear seats? I have two JL 10s that I want to use, but I don't know if a big enough box could fit back there. I was hoping someone had done one to let me know if its a possible deal.

WatchThis, BlownHarleyFord has a 00 HD, so most likely the 2 10's are under the rear bench seat
