Question What Brand of HU install kits did you use?

For those with an aftermarket HU, what brand of install kit did you use? Wiring harness? Model/Part #'s?

I am curious about opinions on the 2 billion different kits out there.

I have to purchase a new one becasue the one for my Mountaineer is NOT the same like the packaging says.

Please let me know what brand kit/harness & part #'s & your opinions of the fit & strength.
--My momma always said, opinions are just like Butt-holes everyone's entitled to one, but not always entitled to show it.

Shouldnt bee too tough the AI kit has a larger Ppocket space the the Metra from my Mountaineer/F150... so we should be able to figure something out... I have an Ai here now... so I am going to use it for now.. but still want opinions...

I am not sure how they can offer a double din without a custom dash piece... the oem radio/heater vent bezel is too small an opening for double din w/o mods...

I realize it can fairly easily be done... but it will not fit in the stock opening... the opening will only handle a din + 1/2... They may start with 2 Ai std F150 kits & bond them together.

what the custom installers do is add 1/4 din above the radio opening & 1/4 below the radio opening... so din + 1/2 + 1/4 + 1/4 equalling 2 din or double din..

there isn't a kit to do it. It is all custom work.

    Dash Kitt

    Hey,

I just ordered my new Alpine CD Player from CRUTCHFIELD. And a dash kit comes included free for my 2003 HD.

I know for a fact that CRUTHFIELD sells dash kits, release keys and wiring harnesses individually. Just go to CRUTCHFIELD.COM and surf around on their website until you find it. I think the custom dash kit for your truck will only be $10-$15. Not too bad if you ask me.

Hopfully, I recieve my deck on Monday, so I can start installing my stereo system. Right now, I'm cruising around with a big gaping whole in the middle of my dash, where the stock CD deck used to be. (Sold it on EBAY for $200).

No Mods yet, just got an alarm installed, currently working on stereo system.

Gaemface thanks... I went ahead & used the AI American International kit... fit awesome... no problems. nice & sturdy.

I like the fact the pocket on the AI kit is MUCH larger than the Metra.
