Thanks, Kromdom. Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. I'm going to start with the back roads to see how fast I can go. If I can maintain freeway speeds with out any wind force trying to lift it up then that would work better.

I decided to go today after work since rush hour traffic isn't quite as bad as it is on Friday here in the Bay Area. I'll feel much better once I inspect it for any shipping damage and get it home safely in my garage.

I'll get some pics up once I get it home and unpacked.

Your're going tomorrow to get yours installed, right? Good luck with that!!

    Smile

Driving to LB tomorrow but will call AGAIN today to double check and one last time tomorrow morning before I hit the road (can you blame me for being skeptical, now?)
Hope they'll let me take pix every step of the way during install so I can post it here as a HOW TO for future DIY efforts.

Well...I made it home with the lid. It arrived in good shape at the yard but it was quite a trip home....here's how I strapped it to the bed

Sorry the pix aren't great...took them when I got home. I will have better ones once I mount it.

I'll post some better pix once I get it installed this weekend.

Good luck, Kromdom, with your trip and install tomorrow.

    Laugh way to go, BillP

Man, I could just imagine the look on your face while you were making that long drive home.. eyes glancing at the rear view mirror, head snapping back to check if DA LID is still there.
Bottom line, you made it home, DA LID is on the truck and now you can finally :drink: and the rest of the guys can start ;d

Email from Paul states that my X2000 ships Friday 3/5!!

Shipping company left a message here at the house that they want to coordinate drop off here at the house on 3/9 or 3/10.
Hmmm...wonder which date I'd pick? DUH!

I'm startin' to get the shakes, man.

Thanks, Kromdom, you are right. I took the back roads all the way and pulled to the side to let others pass. Must have stopped and checked it 6 times, lol. Wanted to make sure the straps didn't rub the paint. Got it home with absolutely no damage.

I didn't notice any detailed in structions in the carton. Just a one pager on the hinges (maybe that's all I need). If you get any info or tips today when they install yours please post or PM me. I'm going to put mine on this weekend.

Hawgzilla, I know how you feel. Inspect it very carefully. I would say you can tell by looking at the box if there is going to be any damage.

There's foam on 2 sides(front and back of the lid in the carton but the sides just have a few inches of space between the lid and the edge of box (no protection). If the shipper follows instructions and handles it the way it is labeled it should arrive in great shape. My box had no damage to it.

Can't wait to get home tonight and start looking at the install....woohooo!

Thanks, Tutone! I saw some in there but didn't even open it last night figuring it was just the light installation.

Did you install yours? Anything you learned from it I should know? I notice you have to remove the plastic bed caps to install the hinges. Is there any trick to them or do they just pop off?

    Thanks!
