power ball and cleaner. and beer. work every time. I have a buddy that got a HArley sportster. and that thing was nasty. We went to town with it and it cleaned up light new. well almost. but you will love the results.
Which power ball and what polish?
JLP COMP-R, LFPVB, 6# Lower 2.93 Upper
Hotchkis TVS, Polished C&L plenum & elbow, SBTB, JLP intake
What is the part?? How deep are the pits? You might need something with a little more cutting power.
If it's pitted badly, to get the best results, you will need to use a series of abrasive media(s) such as sandpaper, steel wool, or very aggressive cutting compound such as Black Emery and a Sisal Wheel, and work your way to finer compounds. If you go with abrasives like sandpaper, start with the finest grit possible (i.e. 400-600) that will remove the pits. Progressively work from those grits to 1000 or 1200, then follow that up with white polishing compound and a spiral sewn wheel. Unfortunately, there is no quick and easy way to a great finish if the metal is pitted. Mothers and a powerball works good for LIGHT polishing/cleaning of dirty, lightly oxidized metals, but if you expect to get a good clean, smooth finish with that combo on badly pitted/oxidized metals, you'll be greatly disappointed.
HERE is a link with some good, detailed information to get you started.
Try aluminium foil and water. Just crush up some aluminium foil and get it wet. It works pretty well and is cheap.
