    California truck registration info!!!!!

As per a conversation between myself and a DMV rep: If your truck has a hard tonneau cover or shell on it that is "permanently attached", you can convert your registration to an "Automobile" tag and deduct the weight fee from your renewal fee. My renewal fee is $352 (on a 5 year old truck) and can deduct $154 from that. THE CATCH: If at any time after converting your trucks registration to an automotive class and have said "permanently attached" cover removed, for what ever reason (i.e., carrying something), you can be cited and owe the weight fee as well as the citations amount. My tonneau cover has been on the truck since it was 6 months old (Dec. '03).............. Wish I'd known about this then. To be on the safe side: Anyone interested in researching this, confirm it with the DMV at 1-800-777-0133. Best of luck!
