I spent two days at Detail Fest 2016. I had a blast until the rain came pouring down. 50% Sat and 90% Sun.
Friday
Starting at 7am I spent all day detailing/polishing this 71 Mustang for the Custom Car Builders Challenge.
This was for the TV show "Competition Ready" that begins airing the end of April on the Velocity channel.
This was a long day and I didn't get home until around 9pm. Polish, stop, interview, polish, stop & retake.
Here's the team I was on with the orange shirts
Here's AJ (pretending to polish paint for the camera)
Here's the finish on the 71 Mustang. Look at that shine.
Look at that refection on the car door.
Here's the engine bay (after)
A Happy ending
Yes, I know who the winner is/was...but I'm not going to tell. This was the final episode of the new show..
I did get a little face time with Butch Patrick...he's still working hard trucking the Munster vehicles to shows.
Here's Butch with Bob McKee
Wait what is that I see...Could it be ny buisness card on his seat?
By golly I think it is.
Saturday
This is the big day of Detail Fest 2016. Again, I arrived at 7am and there was a line of for the show vehicles already.
This car show was sold out way in advance and there was a waiting list for folks wanting to enter the 2016 car show.
I did a quick wipe down of the truck and talked to the vendors, fellow detailers and attend a few product seminars.
There were a few new products unveiled & demonstrations of anything & everything related to auto/boat detailing.
Here's the 1949 Buick Roadmaster convertible from the film 'Rain Man' starring Tom Cruise and Dustin Hoffmann
Shamu - Before the rain.
Everything was going along fine at the car show then it decided to to pour from the sky. Folks were scrambling for cover.
It would stop for a few moments then it would start up again.
Although the judging had been completed when the rain came most of the cars left.
Here's some pics from the Detail Fest 2016 Facebook page. These were all taken before the sky poured.
Thanks for looking...

Looks like a fun event. That's for sharing the pictures.
Same here Merlin. Thanks for sharing the event photos.
Seems like you're always working! Do you ever really get a chance to enjoy these events with the amount of labor you put into them?

Not like a spectator. I can't just lay back and look at chrome and carburetors.
I now look at paint. It's a curse. It could be the coolest car in the show field...
When I get closer and see the paint (swirls, holograms etc.) it's ruined for me.
Friday was a little rough. I started at 5am and finished around 10pm.
Saturday I started at 5am and got to enjoy and hang a bit...until it rained.
I picked up a bunch of new products. I'll review a few here coming up soon.
NHTOC is my home. Whether it's a good or bad review, I like to share here (with my family) first.
Here's a review I hope to do real soon...
With the introduction of long throw polishers, there are now a lot of clones, wanna bees and chinese knock offs.
Friday - I used the new Flex Tool XFE 7 - 15mm Long Stroke Free Spinning Orbital Polisher all day on the 71 Mustang.
Saturday - I used the new Rupes BigFoot LHR15 MarkII Random Orbital Polisher on a test hood, fender and front grill.
I purchased one of them!
I can only imagine. Once you got the detail bug (mixed w/OCD), I can fully understand how it would ruin things for you when you get up close to hat you thought was a rare and beautiful vehicle.
Looking forward to your review on the new polisher. I've only used mine once before my house flooded last year. It's been unusually busy at work too. The two combined, I've had zero time to spend on an endeavor like I started last summer. Only finished the front end and didn't get any farther and that was an all weekend event!
