    How To: Innovate Wideband Instructions

    Harley#356’s How-To’s

    INNOVATE WIDEBAND

    Purpose behind the Mod:
Narrow band A/F gauges are essentially just a "light-show" with some LED's dancing around across the gauge. They are pretty much a waste of money and pretty annoying. The Innovate is one of the best wide band A/F gauges on the market and is very customizable. The LED's around the perimeter can be programmed to any of 30,000 (yes, 30,000!) different colors, and the span of the A/F readings can be adjusted to fine tune your resolution to just show the A/F ratings you want to see. Personally I have mine set from 10.0 to 15.0 because it shouldn't be below 10.0 or its PIG rich, and any above 15.0 and I'm out of the throttle coasting. My LED's are individually colored from shades of blue for 10.0 to 11.0, shades of green from 11.0 to 12.0, shades of yellow from 12.0 to 13.0, shades of orange from 13.0 to 14.0, and shades of red from 14.0 to 15.0. This way I know the A/F range I'm in without even looking at the digital display. You can pick the color for each and every LED on the gauge! Also you can do some recording, limited data logging, etc. with the features on this gauge.

    Need:
-Misc. Wiring Items (ring terminals, shrink wrap, etc.)
-Included O2 Bung welded into collector

    Tools Needed:
    -Wire strippers
    -Wire Chrimpers
    -Soldering Iron (optional)
    -Heat Gun
    -O2 Socket/wrench

***Here is another how-to on the Innovate WB by SWThomas you can also check out for more tips & info! (Found here -> http://www.nloc.net/vbforum/showthread.php?t=139563) Also the WB comes with a disc for further detailed instructions! This thread is just a quick overview and scan of the included quick start guide so you can get a rough idea of what you're going to be tackling when you order the gauge!***

***With any electrical mods, make sure your grounding points are clean and free of dirt or grease. It’s a good idea to sand down the paint where you are attaching the chassis grounds so its metal on metal contact, and use dielectric grease on the terminal ends to ensure a solid connection and will help keep dirt and moisture out and corrosion from occurring.***

***The instructions mention using separate grounding points for various grounds on the wideband. You may not think it would make much of a difference but it really will! Also the free air calibration is VERY NECESSARY! Took me a few times to get it right, but it is critical for the operation of the WB!***

***Lastly, DISCONNECT the battery before starting as with any electrical mod!***

You can see my scribble on page 2. The quick start guide is pretty handy, but they were just my notes for wiring when I was reading it over. Incase you can't read my chicken scratch.....

    LC1's Wiring:
Red: 12v switched on 5 amp fuse
    Blue: Ground
    White & Green: Different Ground
    Black: Taped off
    Yellow & Brown: Taped off

    XD-1/XD-16 Wiring:
Red: 12v switched with LC1's Red
Black: Grounded with White & Green Wires[/b]

I'll have to get a better closeup shot, but its installed on the column pod. One note to keep in mind, at least on the L/01 HD Wheel, with the gauge pod the Innovate bezel hits the corner of the airbag cover when turning the wheel so it makes a tap noise when turning sharp. Just a heads up!

*NOTE* I've heard of a few people having an issue with the WB readings being way off scale (myself included). In most of these cases it was due to the default scale being off from the factory (i.e. not setup for gasoline a/f...the Innovate can be used on various fueled vehicles). Its an easy fix when you hook up to the gauge, just a menu option to change, but don't panic if you're seeing wacked out A/F's at 1st, check the fuel type in the menu!

Just added a note on the fuel option. Just a heads up that I've seen a few people run into. Had me banging my head for a few days til I finally got ahold of Innovate Tech and they sorted it right out
