How To: Replace the Keyless Entry Pad

OK, you have a button on your keyless entry pad that is kaput! This swap takes less than 15 minutes.

    STEPS

Note: There are (4) retaining screws holding the door panel onto the door.

1- Pop the door handle plastic off the door and remove the door trim retaining screw with a phillips screwdriver. Move to the bottom of the door panel and remove the (2) bottom screws also.

2- Pop the window/mirror/door locks control panel off from the front tip and unplug the (4) electrical connectors.

3- Using a small socket driver, removed the door panel retaining screw just inside where the control panel snaps in. To remove the panel, just lift upwards on the panel.

4- Once the door panel is off. Remove the door courtesy light so it does not touch something and melt any plastic. There is a metal bracket that looks like a dogs rear leg. Using a small socket driver, remove the (2) screws holding this bracket in place.

5- Using a small socket driver, remove the door speaker and disconnect the speaker wire connection.

6- Now near the door lock, carefully peel the vapor barrier foam paper away from the door metal. There is a large opening where you can see inside the door metal panel. You can now see the door handle and keyless entry pad.

7- Remove the keyless pad retaining screw with your phillips screwdriver. There are also (2) press-on retaining rings that need to be removed. You can use a flat screwdriver to remove these (DON'T DROP THESE INSIDE THE DOOR PANEL!!).

8- Remove the keyless entry pad from the door handle. Follow the hard tubing surrounding the wires. This is held on the outside of the door glass by (2) plastic body trim plugs. You may have to muscle these out with a screwdriver or similar tool. You can access the 2nd retaining plug through the speaker hole.

9- Once the wire tubing is free, disconnect the light blue plug inside the speaker hole near the front of the door panel.

10- Now install your new keyless entry pad in the reverse manner (steps 9 to 1).

Note: You should test your keyless entry pad before reassembling everything just to make sure it works properly. If you reconnected everything correctly and there are no other wiring problems elsewhere. Your door locks should unlock with the correct door code..

    That's it...

You ROCK! Shadetree mechanic boy (or chick)!
