BTW, the plugs didnt change the sound. It has to be exhaust. Hopefully I will get the time to go back over it this weekend.

My truck has recently started the ticking sound also. I took it to the place that installed my exhaust last year and he did a smoke test and said that it was not my exhaust or my cats. But when he listed with the stethascope (sp?) he said the ticking is coming from the lifters from #8 cyclinder. He thinks it is the use of the 5W 20 supreme oil that I use, he suggests either going to syenthetic or 5w 30.

    Any help would be apprecitated.

2002 with 6lb lower, Violant CIA, plugs gapped .36, & magnaflow CB.

I use synthetic (Mobil 1) 5W30 and have the same noise. I was kinda thinking it may be lifters, but from what I understand "we have noisey valvetrains by nature".

So , have you ever had a melt down,,, Not nervous, l.o.l.
When I had my plugs melt and my detonation event... Ever since then I have a had tick ( not Amblyomma americanum),, Ether a value or a lifter. Any high rev not caught by the rev limiter or severe detonation could cause this problem.
Not saying this is your dilemma however, worth checking.

Edit; This can be narrowed out by doing a compression test, a good one . Removing all the plug's, disconnecting fuel relay fuse, whole shoot'in match kinda test....

Never had a melt down. The plugs that were in it when I bought the truck at 15K werent bad at all. It ticked with the stock plugs and it ticks with the TR6s that I have in it right now.

Could it be a bent Valve? I had a valve guide come loose and that was what I found after I went through everything you did.

Would there be any other evidence to look for to determine that?
