A MarkVIII fan is a factory unit, with factory reliability. And with a MAD controller, is as reliable as anything. I have never broken down in the 2 years Ive had it. With my 900w rms stereo pumping, (and IPOD going) the voltage drops to about 12.5 when the fan kicks on. (at idle) Not too big a deal. And I think the cooling with the MarkVIII is even better than the stock fan. That thing kicks on in the summer, and watching the aeroforce gauge the temp drops quick! I leave it on after a run at the track, and within a few minutes, part of the engine is cool to the touch.
I wouldnt drop $600 on a LFP unit or anything, but $2-300 for a MarkVIII/MAD setup is a very worthwhile investment IMO.
And no, it doesnt help gas mileage. Nothing does on these trucks
