Question for Merlin (Mr Super Shine)

Bought the wife a new GT500 for Christmas. Black to match the HD, but while it was on the floor at the stealership their "Rag man" did a number on it.
Got my PC DA as you suggested and I have the LC pads etc.
The question is - how do I know what speed to use for:
    Removing swirls
    Polishing
    Finishing
Thanks for sharing all your detailing wisdom!!! Now you've got me hooked on shine too!

    Smile

    Until Merlin checks in.....

I found this thread from him although he may have updates by now.
He talks about the DA speeds for polishing and glaze in post #10....althoug it may depend on what DA you are using.
Porter Cable, Griot's garage or other.

That is what is known as DISO (Dealer Installed Swirl Option)

For the PC I suggest a 5" Backing Plate. Make a line on the BP with a sharpie. If it ain't spinnin'...It ain't workin'

Removing swirls - Speed 5.5 - Heavy head pressure - 1" per second
Megs D300 and the Megs 5.5" Microfiber cuttings discs
    or
Lake Country 5.5" flat orange pad with Meguiars M105

    Polishing - Speed 4-5 - Heavy/Meduim head pressure - 1"-2" per second
Lake Country 5.5" flat white pad with Meguiars M205

Finishing (optional) Speed 4 - Meduim head pressure - 1"-2" per second
Lake Country 5.5" flat black pad with Menzerna PO85rd

Followed by BLACKFIRE Wet-Ice Over Fire or just Blackfire Wet Diamond

    Thanks Merlin!
You are indeed the source for quality knowlege when it comes to shining!
It is indeed the DISO!! They even tried to charge me tor their snot grade paint protection. NOT
Another one - is the LC orange pad more or less cutting than the white?
    THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!

The LC orange pad has more cutting ability than the white pad

    Lake Country Pad Comparison Chart

    I use:
M105 with LC flat orange pad
M205 with LC flat white pad
Menz PO85 with LC flat black pad
Blackfire Wet Diamond LC flat blue pad

Are you using the Kevin Brown Method (KBM) with the PC?

I would practice on a different vehicle rather than learning how to polish on a brand new vehicle.

I doesn't take long to figure out how to use it. I can teach someone in about 10 minutes.

4 P's - Paint, products, pads and process.

    Process PC7424xp:
    SCRATCH AND SWIRL REMOVAL

    5" backing plate
    LC 5.5" orange flat pad
Use M105 and "prime" the pad
Then 2-3 dime size drops on the pad
Set the PC7424xp to Speed 5-5.5
Put the AC cord on your shoulder
Only turn on the PC "on the paint"
Use heavy pressure on the machine head
Make sure the plate is spinning (even slowly)
Keep the pad flat on the paint when polishing
    Only polish a 24" x 24" section at a time
When the M105 dries a bit...mist it with water
Do vertical then horizontal overlapping passes
Overlap the passes by 50 percent each time
Move the PC across the paint at 1"-2" per sec.
    Make 4-5 passes H&V on each 24" x 24" section
Once a section is complete clean the paint w/IPA
Inspect the paint for swirls w/sunlight or bright light
Repeat if necessary then move on to M205 to finish

Repeat this pattern 4-5 times (section pass)

Be sure to turn on (and off) the machine ON the paint.
Then remove the machine from the paint.
There is a trick to removing the PC from the paint.
When you turn it off let it spin down then lift at the end.

You will only turn on or off the machine off the paint once.
Wear an old shirt that you don't mind getting polish on

NOTE: Put a beach towel over the windshield when polishing.

    Process PC7424xp:
    POLISHING THE PAINT USING M205

This process removes the micro marring that is introduced when using M105
M205 also brightens the paint and increases the gloss to a LSP ready finish.

    (to be continued)

    Thumbs up

Maybe practice on something else painted around the house first like a BBQ grill or outdoor metal shed?......or neighbors car!

After the entire vehicle is polished with M105...

    Process PC7424xp:
    POLISHING THE PAINT USING M205

This process removes the micro marring that is introduced when using M105
M205 also brightens the paint and increases the gloss to a LSP ready finish.

    5" backing plate
    LC 5.5" white flat pad
Use M205 and "prime" the pad
2-3 dime size drops on the pad
Set the PC7424xp to Speed 4.5-5
Put the AC cord on your shoulder
Only turn on the PC "on the paint"
Use medium pressure on the machine head
Make sure the plate is spinning (even slowly)
Keep the pad flat on the paint when polishing
    Only polish a 24" x 24" section at a time
M205 has a much longer working time than M105
Do vertical then horizontal overlapping passes
Overlap the passes by 50 percent each time
Move the PC across the paint at 1"-2" per sec.
    Make 4-5 passes H&V on each 24" x 24" section
Once a section is complete clean the paint w/IPA
Inspect the paint with sunlight or bright shop light

Repeat the above pattern 4-5 times (section pass)

After M205 (in most cases) you are ready for your LSP
