2002 New to me Harley Davidson F-150

Hello everyone! I about to purchase a 2002 Harley Davidson with 97,000 miles! I am excited and a little bit nervous about the purchase as I currently own a 2007 STX with the 4.6. It just seems weird to me to buy a truck 5 years older than the one I have although it seems to be an upgrade. I will be towing a 6x12 enclosed trailer with my R1 and R6 loaded in it so I will have to buy a good trailer hitch and will line-x the truck bed. I hope that the F150 will have no issues towing with towing capacity lower than the STX. Other than those two things I can't think of any thing else to do with it. I can't wait to drive it only issue is I am in Okinawa (Marine Corps) right now so I will have to wait a year for it. I can't wait to see it beside my 1987 Monte Carlo SS Aerocoupe.

Bring this thread back to life. The Marine Corps has decided that I need to be at Camp Lejeune NC, by December. With that being said I will be leaving Okinawa November 21st. I bought the truck above and have yet to drive it. I can't wait!! My question is when changing the oil, is there any special oil or filters that you all use? With my 2007 F150 I used 5-20 motor craft synthetic blend, is that sufficient with this truck? Thanks in advance.

I run Motorcraft oil filters (FL-820S) and Valvoline full-synthetic in both of my trucks. You should also get in the habit of replacing the fuel filter every other oil change (at least). When my Lightning was my DD I changed the fuel filter every oil change but that truck is slightly modded, my HD gets the fuel filter changed every other oil change.

    Do basic general maintenance:
    -clean MAF
    -set TPS
    -spark plugs
    -oil, oil filter
    -fuel filter
-ensure the IC pump is working
    -clean air filter

You may wish to look at the Lincoln Navigator/Ford Expedition/F150 HD - NAVI fuel filter mod.

Thread -->The Navigator Fuel Filter Upgrade.

You can purchase the NAPA (NAPA Part # 3296) version or the FORD (FORD Part # FG-872).

Here's a picture of NAPA filer. Notice the size difference.

I personally use the Ford Part

We will have to get together when you are in NC. I won't be too far from you when you get back to the states.

Thanks everyone for the advice and I will look into the basic maintenance, am I not the most mechanically inclined person in the world but I will try! Once I get the house and settled in just let me know when the get together will be. I think the only mod right now is I am thinking about the L&S oil separator.

Welcome aboard! Once you get back and get settled in, shows us some pics once it's been cleaned up.

Re the L&S Seperator, a few of us just got together and purchased as a group. We all saved $25. Perhaps you can start another thread to see if you can gather interest in another run with Vince. He was very cool to work with and appreciated the business.
